Any questions we haven't answered?

Why is normal toilet roll bad for the environment?

Normal toilet roll contains chemicals. These chemicals poison waterways, damage the environment and some are very bad for health. These include: bleach, formaldehyde, BPA (Bisphenol A), de-inking agents, chlorine dioxide, sodium sulphide, sodium hydroxide, sodium sulphate, anti-slime agents, filler, adhesives, wet strength enhancers and more…The production of normal toilet roll wipes out more than 27,000 trees a day. Roughly 9 million a year.

Why are Naked Rolls better for the environment?

Bamboo requires no pesticides or fertilisers and only needs rainwater to grow. Bamboo absorbs 5 times more carbon dioxide than trees and produces 35% more oxygen than trees. It is naturally the fastest growing plant in the world and rapidly renewable. Growing up to 3 feet in 24 hours and reaching maturity within 4-6 years - trees take 30-60 years.

Why are Naked Rolls the most environmentally friendly toilet rolls available in Britain?

Naked Rolls are the only unbleached toilet roll on the market - with zero chemicals and zero plastic. Other bamboo toilet rolls on the market are chemically treated, bleached and/or individually wrapped. Although this might look pretty – this is unnecessary, bad for the environment and wasteful! Carbon emissions from producing our bamboo Naked Rolls are 30% lower than recycled and 65% lower than non-recycled toilet roll.

How is Naked Sprout unbleached toilet roll made and where is the bamboo from?

Naked Rolls are the only unbleached toilet roll on the market - with zero chemicals and zero plastic. Other bamboo toilet rolls on the market are chemically treated, bleached and/or individually wrapped. Although this might look pretty – this is unnecessary, bad for the environment and wasteful! Carbon emissions from producing our bamboo Naked Rolls are 30% lower than recycled and 65% lower than non-recycled toilet roll.

Why is Naked Sprout bamboo toilet paper better than recycled toilet paper?

Recycled toilet paper is made from paper that was originally made from wood. Recycled paper can only be recycled a finite number of times – so to make recycled paper – you need to have a market for the original wood based paper. Without deforestation and wood based paper use – recycled paper products would not exist. Recycled paper is inadvertently feeding the market for virgin wood paper. With the abundance of bamboo the super plant – which can be grown and harvested more quickly and more responsibly than any wood – and can produce the same paper based products as trees – we believe there is no need to continue cutting down trees to make any paper based products. We hope to encourage a shift from wood based paper products (virgin wood or recycled paper) – in order to prevent deforestation in the first place. That’s without even mentioning the chemicals and processing that go into manufacturing the recycled paper in the first place…

How eco-friendly are the cardboard boxes?

All Naked Sprout boxes are made from recycled cardboard and FSC Certified.

Can the cardboard boxes be recycled?

Yes, they can. Depending on where you live you can pop them in your recycling collection or take them to your local recycling centre.

Why don’t you individually wrap the rolls?

Although this might look pretty – it is unnecessary, bad for the environment and wasteful! At Naked Sprout we believe in cutting out waste and only using the essentials to make our products. Wrapping toilet roll helps it to look good – but uses unnecessary and wasteful inks and materials.

Where does the Naked Sprout bamboo come from?

Our toilet paper is manufactured in China – as this is where the Bamboo is grown. Asia is known as the ‘Kingdom of Bamboo’ growing the most bamboo of any country in the world – approximately 44,000-70,000 square kilometres. They have over 500 different species. Annual production is 7 million tonnes - one third of the total world production. There is a surplus of bamboo in China. The Chinese mostly use it for building materials and as a food source.

Bamboo is not commercially available to manufacture toilet paper in Europe – so we have taken the decision to keep our manufacturing close to the raw materials.

Although wood and recycled paper are available closer to home, having researched the environmental pros and cons of these - our bamboo toilet roll is better for the environment. Carbon emissions from producing our bamboo Naked Rolls are 30% lower than recycled and 65% lower than normal toilet roll . We transport our products by sea freight and use the closest possible ports to our factory and warehouse to ensure road miles are also kept to a minimum. We have also chosen to deliver to our customers using Royal Mail – as by using the existing network and infrastructure of daily deliveries they have – this also reduces our impact on the environment.

We are currently in the process of auditing our carbon footprint to ensure our manufacturing process and delivery to our customers is carbon neutral – and all of our bamboo comes from FSC certified forests. We know our product isn’t perfect – but we are committed to doing all we can to reduce the impact toilet rolls have on the environment.

How will you tackle future environmental challenges?

We continue to research and develop the most eco-friendly options. We aim to offer the most sustainable solution possible at an affordable price.

What if I’m not satisfied with Naked Sprout?

We think you will be! But if you’re unhappy we offer 100% money back guarantee. Email us on hello@nakedsprout.uk

How do Naked Sprout prices compare to supermarkets?

Each brand and roll varies on ply (thickness) and length of roll – making it hard to compare. Naked Rolls are similar in price to leading brands. The easiest way to compare is to look at cost per sheet. Our rolls are 3-ply and 300 sheets. Most supermarket rolls are 2-ply and 150-200 sheets. This makes ours exxxxxxtra long lasting! As well as extremely soft. Supporting Just a Drop with every box you buy – helps provide clean water to children at school in Kenya. Another worthwhile benefit.

Do Naked Rolls work in compost toilets and septic tanks?

Our toilet paper breaks down just like any other toilet paper – and don’t forget it’s chemical free. As it doesn’t contain any bleach or dyes – it is the perfect toilet paper to use in septic systems, boats, campervans, etc as it will dissolve naturally. Some of our team have septic tanks at home and use Naked Sprout toilet paper without any issues. We aren’t of course qualified plumbers

Will pandas go hungry?

The bamboo we use is different to the type that pandas eat!

How do you transport the Naked Rolls from China?

As part of our policy to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible we completely avoid air miles. Using sea freight to ship directly to the port local to our warehouse helps cut down emissions. Our warehouse is situated within 70 miles of the port – meaning reduced road miles for our toilet rolls. We are actively researching different ways to further limit damage to the environment.

Are Naked Rolls organic and vegan friendly?

Yes, our bamboo is organic and vegan friendly.

Is Naked Sprout bamboo chemically treated to turn into soft toilet roll?

No, our bamboo toilet roll is 100% chemical free and very soft. With absolutely no hydrogen peroxide, bleach, inks, dyes, scents etc. Regular tree-based toilet roll (including recycled) requires many chemicals to turn it into soft white paper.

Are Naked Rolls suitable for sensitive skin?

Yes definitely! Bamboo is naturally hypo-allergenic, and Naked Rolls have absolutely no additives.

What is the inner core made from?

Recycled cardboard.
